As part of the commemorative year “500 Years of the Salzburg Peasants’ War,” Tobias Hammerle of gold extra is collaborating with fortress administrator Marcus Hank and historian Ewald Hiebl to design a three-year special exhibition at Hohenwerfen Fortress.
gold extra is (co-)responsible for the media and artistic content—ranging from scenic documentation of historical events to digital and performative installations within the space.
The exhibition explores the history of the Salzburg Peasants’ War as part of a European movement for justice, rights, and resistance. It brings the political and social conflicts of 1525 to life through varied media formats—immersive, interactive, and critically reflective. The result is a format that connects collective memory with contemporary perspectives.
A central component is the large-scale event "The Uprising" (directed by Christine Eder) on June 21, 2025 – a performative intervention with hundreds of participants, in which history unfolds anew in the form of an immersive spectacle. Aspects of this event are also incorporated into the three-year exhibition (2026–2028).
